Climate, Forests and Woodlands Community of Practice

Who We Are

The Climate, Forests and Woodlands eXtension Community of Practice (CoP) consists of Cooperative Extension educators, faculty members, researchers, and members of private industry, government agencies, and nongovernmental organizations interested in keeping forests sustainable on private and public lands. The CoP focuses on providing information to private owners of forested land and the Extension professionals who serve them.

The CoP works in a collaborative manner to deliver science-based, peer-reviewed Extension education materials related to the subjects of forests, woodlands, and climate change. We strive to improve the capacity for forest landowners and managers to access a broader base of readable science-based information on the effects of climate variability and change on forests and woodlands and the adaptive management practices needed to conserve and enhance their function.

Our Goals

Our mission is to provide an online resource about how climate variability and a changing climate impact forests in the United States and their management. Our content will:

  • Provide current and practical information to help landowners reduce potential risk from climate- related impacts on forests.
  • Support informed decision-making by landowners and managers through research-based knowledge.
  • Support the needs of natural resource professionals, landowners, Extension educators, and others.
